Sired around a half-dozen youngsters, born between 1781 and 1789, listed in the GSB, the only named one a colt, Jack's Maidenhead (1781) from Mambrino's dam. There was an earlier Yellow Jack who raced at Newmarket for high stakes in 1704, not listed in the GSB. |

(Young) Spanker SIRE: [probable] Spanker - D'ARCY YELLOW TURK. DAM: Not known. Not much is noted about this horse in standard sources; he is seen in the pedigree of a Curwen/Old Spot mare (Family 44), grandam of the racehorse and sire (Bolton) Sweepstakes in the GSB, but he himself is not listed in the GSB. He is recorded in the diary of John Hervey, (1st) Earl of Bristol [C.M. Prior, Early Records of the Thoroughbred Horse], who visited the Leedes stud near Pontrefact in Yorkshire in 1705; Hervey wrote that he, rather than the Leedes Arabian (as indicated in the GSB), was the sire of Bay Peg, an extremely significant mare in Family 6, the dam of Basto (1702) and Fox (c.1714). |
