Only weight allowance for maidens; restricted to amateur riders with prize money only offered after 1971.

The first year the race was open only to members of the Elkridge or Green Spring Hunt Clubs; from 1895-1902 it was open only to members of recognized Maryland hunt clubs and residents of Maryland who were approved by the race committee, and after that opened to members of all hunt clubs in the U.S. and Canada. It has been held in several locations, settling finally in Worthington Valley, Glyndon, Maryland in 1922.

Elise by Frank--Traces to an imported Buzzard mare, according to American mare family research by Chris Matthes; she numbers this family A76.
Puss family--Traces back to the mare Puss (c. 1850) by Sir Charles Napier in the ASB, and no further. No family number was assigned by Lowe or Bobinski.

The notation "hb" indicates the horse was considered a "Half-bred"--somewhere in its lineage a horse not entered in the General Stud Book appeared. Some half-bred female families were traced, recorded and subsequently designated with a "B" before a number. See Half-Bred Foundation Mares for more information. In some cases, the horse's dam or her lineage was traced, but not assigned a number, and in some cases the dam or lineage simply is not now known.
