Sefton marker
Marker for Sefton, a survivor of the IRA bombing of July 1982

SEFTON was one of the horses in the IRA bombing of the Household Cavalry Guards in Hyde Park, London, on 20th July 1982. Seven of the the sixteen horses were killed, but Sefton, despite horrendous shrapnel injuries, survived. Eight hours of surgery and intensive care brought him back to health and service. He lived until age 30, and died on 9th July 1993. He is interred at the Defence Animal Centre, in Remount Road, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.
