Reynoldstown

Irish-bred Reynoldstown won two consecutive Grand Nationals at Aintree, the fifth horse to win the race twice, although his second win was attributed to front runner Davy Jones' reins breaking, which caused him run out at the last fence. In his first win of 1935 Reynoldstown beat the favored Golden Miller, who was heavily weighted at 12 st. 7 lbs., and who despite winning the year before, was not considered an "Aintree horse," jumping, as he did, off his forehand. In that race Golden Miller blundered at Valentine's Brook and lost his jockey, and Thomond II, another good 'chaser who had competed earlier that year against Golden Miller in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, was carrying 11 st. 13 lbs. and was even with Reynoldstown to the last, but collided with him on landing, and fell back during the run-in. In the 1936 race Reynoldstown carried top weight at 12 st. 2 lbs., and despite a blunder on the second circuit, gamely went off after the unlucky Davy Jones. Reynoldstown was by the top jumper sire My Prince, and out of the half-bred mare, Fromage, a member of the Irish-bred mares from family B22. Her sire, Frontino, sired some steeplechasers, and her dam, Homage won some steeplechases. Homage was by Hominy, who won the Irish Grand Military steeplechase.
