Thoroughbred Sires of Horses that Jumped Darley Arabian Line |
Ridden by one of steeplechasing's all-time great jockeys, George Stevens, Emblem won the 1863 Grand National by a decisive 20 lengths; her full sister, Emblematic, won the National under Stevens the following year and placed third in 1865. Their dam, Miss Batty, was out of a sister to Drayton, sire of the 1854 Grand National winner Bourton (also possible sire of 1857 winner Emigrant). Their sire, Derby winner Teddington, was a great weight-carrier of courage, with "superb hind action." |
